Fall Goals

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Close your eyes. Imagine you are laying in a pile of leaves enjoying the cool, crisp air in the autumn sunshine. Seriously, do this and count to thirty.

suzy speaks - fall goals 2015

Your mind feels clear, right? That's the great thing about fall - the weather is changing, which helps you mentally prepare for change in your life. When Victoria and Meg at The B Bar asked about our fall goals in this month's link up, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. I've been thinking a lot about changes I need in my life and goals I want to accomplish before the year ends. At work, we say that if you share your goals with others, you're more likely to accomplish them. So share! What do you want to achieve this fall?

+ Spend less time with my nose in my phone and more time with my nose in a book. I recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by recommendation from one of my long distance besties. Honestly, it really has changed my life. But this isn't the point of the story - of course, I can't share that first. The point of the story is I spent a Sunday afternoon perusing the rows of books at Barnes & Noble and I forgot how much I enjoy getting sucked into an awesome story.

+ Write letters to friends and family. While cleaning out the ladypartment, I found a box of old letters sent from my grandmother while growing up. She has always been great about writing me letters. Now that I'm older, I really cherish these memories written in pen and want to share that same joy with others as well.

+ Transition to a healthier lifestyle. This involves meeting my weight loss goal, adding in exercise daily, changing my eating habits, and learning to cook healthier meals. I am making a lot of progress on this already and hope I continue on this path into 2016. It's funny, but I have more trouble cooking than exercising. I just haven't figured out the best way to cook without being so exhausted after work.

+ Build up my savings account again. My spending has been out of control this year and I really need to wrangle it in. Having a little cushion is always nice for emergencies! (Speaking from experience, friends. Always have a cushion in case you fall.)

+ Learn to iterate instead of expecting perfection immediately. I am terrible at trying to make my first draft my final product. This issue is something that always comes up in my reviews, so I'm determined to turn over a new leaf. (See what I did there? I'm so punny this fall.)

+ Be clear, concise, and confident when explaining points and ideas. I am such a rambler - see first point in personal goals above. Rambling really makes me seem that I don't know what I'm talking about and really just ends up confusing the other person. Earlier in the summer, I began managing other people and it became really obvious how often I ramble.

+ Take on one major project before 2016. I actually might have something in the works already!

+ Blog on a consistent basis. (Of course, this always have to make my list.) I love blogging and I love the way I feel after writing a post. I haven't figured out how to balance my blogging life with my work and social lives.

+ Finish sorting through boxes in my apartment. I've made a lot of headway on this one since reading Tidying Up. My anxiety has seriously decreased dramatically since getting my home life in order!

+ Hang a gallery wall in my living room.

+ Find the perfect decorative pillows for the living room and my bedroom.

+ Purchase bar stools for my kitchen island.

+ Setup my patio so I can enjoy the cool weather coming in October!

+ Only buy items that bring me joy. I am really bad at running last minute to a boutique to pick up something that I only semi-like for an event, then never wearing it again. Really bad. Last week, I cleaned out my entire closet and couldn't believe how many things I was holding onto that didn't bring me joy at all. Why did I even buy this thing in the first place? Which brings me to my next goal...

+ Pick out outfits for the next day. (I know this will make my life ten times easier.)

+ Wear workout clothes to the gym only. Wait, what? Soooo I also have a really bad habit of wearing yoga pants and big tees to the office. I work in a super, super casual environment and got into a rhythm of not dressing for success. But I'm about to be 25 and I feel like that's not really acceptable anymore unless I'm a fitness instructor...

+ Find the perfect pair of boots for fall. (My favorite boots are seeing their final days. So freakin' sad.)

+ And on that note, find the perfect pair of leggings. I haven't found any yet that last longer than a season. Any recommendations, y'all?

+ Stock up on long, lightweight sweaters. I've been obsessed with them lately!

Happy first day of fall, y'all!
