DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner

It's Monday, so let's keep things simple and easy around here.

Gunk and junk buildup on my makeup brushes really really disgusts me, so I make it a habit to clean them every 4 to 6 weeks or when I change makeup brands. The feeling of using a fresh, clean brush is the best way to start off your day.

I found this cleaner recipe years ago on the Internet before Pinterest happened (so basically, in the stone ages.) This cleaner is fantastic because all the ingredients can be found in your home and it takes less than five minutes to finish cleaning your brushes.

+ 1 cup of warm water
+ 2 tbsp of white vinegar
+ 1 quarter size squeeze of dish soap
+ 1 small bowl
+ 1 towel

Combine warm water, white vinegar, and dish soap in a bowl. Stir soap is mixed in completely. It should look like the bowl of water above - a light blue color.

Take your brush and swirl it in the cleaner. Run it under warm water in the sink. Try not to mess with the brush bristles so that the brush won't lose it's shape. Lightly press the bristles against the side of the sink to remove excess water. Lay brush on towel.

That's all, folks! I typically clean my brushes at night and let them dry overnight so that I will be able to use them in the morning. I definitely do not recommend cleaning your brushes if you know you need to use them within 3 to 4 hours. You want them to dry completely so that the wet bristles won't mess up your makeup.

I took a before and after so y'all can see the difference between the brushes when using this cleaner.

My white makeup brushes always return to their original color after I use this cleaner. I love it!

How do you clean your brushes? Any tips or tricks?
