build wardrobe on a budget - closet cleanse

Cleansing your closet is the best and worst part of the building process. Best part because it is so stress relieving to rid your closet of all the unnecessary clothing and accessories. Worst part because it is so time consuming. It took about four hours to clean my closet out because I did this thorough cleanse. So I definitely suggest dedicating a day or a half day to this.

So how do you do a closet cleanse?

build wardrobe on a budget

A/N: This post was originally published in 2013, but it's one of the most popular posts on my blog, so I decided to give it a facelift!

In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, "I confronted that eternal puzzle - a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear."

Boy, that has happened to me more times than I'd like to count. Sometimes I look at my closet, shut the door, then open it again hoping something will pop out at me...hasn't worked yet.

After going through this ritual over and over again, I realized that there are two major mistakes made by many of us when it comes to our closets:

We're all closet hoarders. // (Pun intended.) For some reason, we tell ourselves that we need to keep that top and those pants from our younger days. I mean, they might fit again some day! I know. I use to say the same thing. Trust me, you don't really need that top from high school that you wore to your first Sadie Hawkins. If it's sentimental to you, pull it out of your closet and tuck it in a memory box. It's hard to let go, but it's time if you want to improve your wardrobe.

We're sale impulsive buyers. // You head over to the sale rack, pick something up, and bam! It's only two dollars?! I have to buy it! We've all been sucked into this black hole. If you've ever seen a sales rack at Old Navy or Forever 21, you know what I'm talking about. You buy something that you would never buy at full price 9 times out of 10 and it ends up sitting in your closet forever.

So how do we break these horrible habits?

shonda rhimes sherry lansing award speech

Yesterday morning, I woke up and did my usual Pinterest browsing when I came across this article from Buzzfeed, "Shonda Rhimes Delivered The Most Inspiring, Badass Speech." Of course, I had to read it because 1) I am obsessed with all of her shows and 2) that was a pretty catchy headline.

Read it all the way through to the end. Let me tell you, she did give a pretty badass, inspiring speech.

8 Friends You'll Make in Your Early Twenties

eight friends from your early twenties

As my 24th birthday approaches, I'm starting to think more and more about the people in my life. I've legally been an adult now for about 6 years now - wow, that's a weird number to grasp - and it's funny the type of friends I've made throughout college and in my post-grad life.

This past week I was upset about the way a friend was acting and labeled her as the I'm Only Here If I Need You friend, which made me laugh and actually helped me get over being upset with her. Then, I just started going over all the types of friends I've made and the list below was born.

Make Haystacks // Seriously, the winter holidays are my favorite time of year because my family has so many great traditions. One of my favorite holiday treats my mom makes every year are haystacks. They're the perfect combination of crunchy, salty, and sweet. I can't wait to share her recipe with you all next week!

Shop Local // I decided that all of my Christmas presents this year would be from local stores and boutiques here in Bryan/College Station be cause I think it's important to support businesses in your community. I'm in love with these Cat Studio glasses that are at Pine Boutique right now. They're the perfect gift for a White Elephant or Secret Santa. They have a fantastic Pinterest board of gift ideas if you're still doing your holiday shopping (like me..whoops!).
