transition wardrobe into fall

It's officially fall and I'm just on the edge of my seat waiting for Texas to say "Haha! Just kidding about this nice weather." Yesterday was actually the most perfect day ever. It wasn't too hot, wasn't too cold, and all you needed was a light jacket. Some might even call that the perfect date. (Bonus points if you can name that movie.)

I talk about the weather a lot lately in case y'all haven't noticed, but only because I'm concerned for southern girls everywhere. The weather is so unpredictable. One day it's in the 60s, the next day it's 100 degrees. Don't get me wrong, we love summer. We really love it. But our love for leaves changing, pumpkin spiced anything, and knee high boots just can't be beat. The best way to embrace the hot weather we're still having and enjoy all aspects of fall is to keep a flexible wardrobe.

1// Keep everything short.
Let's be real. As much as we want to throw on our flannels for Flannel Friday, it's just not possible. From short skirts to short sleeves to ankle booties, this is how you'll survive the next month. I really love these ankle booties that are disguised as sandals at T.J. Maxx. They're perfect to feel like you're in fall without dying from the summer heat.

By the way, you can buy from T.J.Maxx online now. How did I miss this important memo?! I don't know, but my little online shopping heart and wallet are super happy about this fact.

2// It's all about color.
When I think fall, I see lots of burgundy, army green, navy, pale pink, black, white, leopard...the list goes on and on. So many colors can work for fall, as long as they're styled right. It's as simple as changing your nail polish or wearing an interesting print like houndstooth in a fall color palette. Personally, I paint my nails burgundy (or maroon as Aggies call it) at the beginning of September. It instantly makes me feel like fall has begun.

3// Light-weight fabric is your best friend.
Just can't wait to throw on your riding boots? I know, me either. The best way to wear them without dying from the heat is to wear light, breathable fabric. Stick with linen or cotton and you'll be thankful. This chambray dress from H&M is perfect because it's 100% cotton and won't feel heavy in the heat. The plaid scarf is lightweight as well and will look perfect for this casual look just draped around your neck untied.

What do you think? How do you stay cool but still wear styles for fall?
